25 Amazing Christmas Cookies to Make Now

Everyone in the house LOVES cookies. In fact, it is one of our favorite parts. They know we will be making cookies and lots of them. In my post talking about 12 Christmas Traditions, I mentioned baking cookies with your children. So here are 25 Amazing Christmas Cookies to Make Now!25 Amazing Christmas Cookies to Make Now

The great debate Cookies or Candy

For my husband, it will ALWAYS be cookies, but I want both. I need my mom’s maple fudge and grandma’s maple candy.  Our kids are either well trained or just keep the peace, they love both.

My boys are like their dad and prefer cookies, but they won’t turn down a piece of fudge. The girls are more like me, and while they love a good cookie they do love their candy.

My thought is why not both! If you are a candy family, it doesn’t hurt to make a few cookies to munch on while you play games. If you are a cookie family, some yummy cinnamon candy or even fudge will not go uneaten, I promise.

Why do I need 25 different kinds of cookies?

No one needs 25 different kinds of cookies, especially if they want to not gain a lot of weight. There are so many things you could do with all of those cookies you baked.

Make a basket for:

The local State Police– they have to work over the holidays protecting us, and I know would enjoy some holiday cheer of some homemade cookies.

The local Fire DepartmentHome fires can happen at any time, but they generally increase during the fall and winter, with December and January being the peak months.- American Red Cross.

These men and women are on duty all the time and willing to risk their lives for you and your family. They are willing to give all. It is the least we can do to give them some holiday cheer of homemade cookies.

The Hospital– I’m not sure how this would work, but it would be easier if you knew someone who worked at the local hospital.

These people are also giving up their holidays to take care of the sick. You never know when it will be you or someone you love who is spending the holidays at the hospital.

We have a special connection with the NICU, thanks to a stint Samuel spent there. We plan on taking cookies there as those nurses and doctors were such a blessing to us. If you know of a way to get cookies to the EMTs that would be amazing.

A Nursing Home– These nurses are caring for the aged who can’t take care of themselves. I know they could use a pick me up as well.

Homeless shelter– These people don’t have anything, let alone some homemade cookies. How you do this depends on each shelter. It would be best to contact them and find out if they will accept your gift.

Ronald McDonald House– This is a place that provides housing for families who need it while their child is in the hospital. We have one that is local and have made food for them before. They were so grateful for the hot homecooked meal that they missed by not being at home.

Memories or a Mess

I get it, believe me, I do. I have a small 25 Amazing Christmas Cookies to Make Nowgalley kitchen.

So imagine 7 kids and 1 overwhelmed mom, with curly hair sticking up all over the place. It is a comical, stressful, beautiful mess.

I divide my time between giving instructions, trying to keep the almost 3-year old away from the oven door, and keeping the others from eating the raw dough or icing.

By the time we are done, I’m so tired, and just want to be done.

I know it is stressful, messy and exhausting BUT I also know I’m making memories and tying strings with my children.

In the end, what do I want them to remember, the time or mom who was freaking out? When it comes down to it, how things go is in my hands, will I live in the moment or have a fit?

You really counted all of those? Never fear, I have number 25 for you right here. It wouldn’t be 25 Christmas Cookies to Make Now if I didn’t give 25 Amazing Christmas Cookies to Make Nowyou all 25.

The 25th cookie is my mother-in-law’s Molasses Sugar Cookies. These cookies don’t look like much, in fact, that is what my husband loves because it means hopefully no one will eat them and he can have them all.

When I spent my first Christmas with his family, he told me I had to try them. I was young, nieve, in love, and wanting to impress him and his family.

After the first cookie, I didn’t need to work to impress anymore. They are amazing, and even better the next day if there are any leftovers.

I’m sure you could find this recipe somewhere on the internet, but I’m going to actually share a family recipe along with some pictures as we make them. This will be our second batch of these cookies this season, and I’m sure there will be more.

Joyce's Molasses Sugar Cookies
These cookies are a must in our home. If my husband could only have 1 cookie for Christmas this would be it. We go through 2-3 batches, and I know my mother-in-law makes several if everyone is coming in.
