As a mom of 2 grown and graduated children and five still growing, I decided at the end of the journey of raising number 2 to reflect. What did I do right by her? How have a I made her life harder? While they will always be your children, when you blink your eyes, they will be 18 and graduating from high school ready to head off to live the life you dreamed for them. While I’m excited for my children at the same time, I will miss them. You see, I genuinely like my children. I like being around them.
While the first 18 years may have seemed long, it is everything that comes after that which takes up most of your time with your child. They are the ones who are going to take care of you in your old age. Your children will either rise or fall depending on if you have built character in them from their youth.

Scripture says to “Train up a child in the way he should go.” Like the beautiful lilac bush in my yard, it needs pruning now and then. I have to cut off the dead branches and remove the suckers that threaten the success of the tree. The tree may look sad for a while, but like my child, it is for the best and will create a sweet scent for the rest of my life.
The path to success is LONG and HARD! Your kids are going to have to make choices every day, building habits that their character gives them a foundation for success.

I know this is a lot weighing on you as a mom. You want the best for your children. Everyday you provide a good meal. You make sure they get their schoolwork done, and get a good nights sleep.
