12 Divine Christmas Candies to Devour

Ok, After writing the post about 25 Amazing Christmas Cookies, I knew I needed to write one about my favorite part of Christmas- the candy. Honestly, if we didn’t make cookies, I would be completely fine with it. As for candy, that is a personal need. Since I NEED Christmas candy like my husband NEEDS Christmas cookies, I guess I better make both. Here are 12 Divine Christmas Candies to Devour.12 Divine Christmas Candies to Devour

Just buy them instead of making them

In my post about 12 Christmas Traditions to Start Today, I mentioned visiting a local Candy Maker. While this is something that has become a favorite tradition for our family, it is also not cheap. Each of my 6 children wants a piece of candy. I can’t blame them, their candy is amazing.

I can’t afford to buy them all the candy they want.

It was my grandma Lucile, my inspiration, who made candy every year and taught me her secrets. It is not only the love the amazing candy she made, but the time spent with her that was important. As I write this, I’m smiling through my tears. The memories flooding and I miss her so much. By making her candy with my children, I keep her memory and love for me alive.

I don’t have time

I’m not expecting nor telling you to make all 12 Divine Christmas Candies to Devour12. I’ve never made all of them in 1 year, but I do pick and make 1 or 2 each year.

As my children have grown up they have their favorites. We have a planning session and discuss what we will be making that year. We pick our 2 items to make as a family. If my teens want to make something extra, they are more than welcome. They are more than capable of doing just about anything in the kitchen.

The point here is- don’t be a perfectionist and think you have to make ALL of these. Not only would it wear you out, but it would take away from the joy of the season.

You really like making messes, don’t you?

12 Divine Christmas Candies to DevourAs Ms. Frizzle says, “Take chances. Get messy.”

To be honest, I hate messes. The perfectionist comes out in me and I lose it. I become a control freak and start barking orders.

Ok, so I am a messy cook. One of my best friends learned this when we baked cupcakes for a wedding together. I cooked and she cleaned up around me. She never commented about my messes, but I could tell I was stressing her out.

Cooking is messy, but that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. My mom was a chef and she tried to teach me to clean as I go. I don’t always do this, but I’m really good about having a sink of hot soapy water to wash the dishes I need to reuse as I go. Not only does it save time, but it means I dirty fewer dishes.

Why would I make 12 Divine Christmas Candies to Devour if I’m not going to share them?

It is completely up to you if you share them or not. 12 Divine Christmas Candies to DevourThere are certain things that I just won’t eat. Anything with peanut butter I can’t stand. I just don’t like the smell of it. I’m more than willing to share them.

Now when my mom makes me some of her Maple Fudge, I’m a little more greedy. I only get it once a year and it melts in my mouth. Ok, so maybe I share a piece or two, but I am pretty scrooge-like when it comes to my maple fudge.

If you are going to make all 12 Divine Christmas Candies to Devour, what you do with them is completely up to you. Just don’t forget to save some for yourself. Those calories don’t count, right?
