Last Saturday was my 41st birthday, and as I looked in the mirror, I begin to see age. My hair was gray and looks very frazzled. It was time for a haircut and getting it colored. This time last year, I had it cut and colored. Once I was asked if I was enjoying the treat of getting my hair cut. As if this isn’t just part of regular self-care. I was angry, how dare this person to act like taking care of myself is a treat instead of the way things should be. So my gift to myself was the beginning Saturday Self Care Challenge, and I intend to share it with you!
Why is self-care so important?
I could sit here and give you all kinds of reasons why it is important, but it would be better to hear it from a professional.
My friend, Sarah Steckler has an amazing blog and is a Self-Empowerment Coach says, “When the demands of life pull us in a zillion directions and we don’t make time for self-care some ugly things can start to build like resentment, fatigue and pure lack of motivation.”
In her post here called, The Importance of Self-care When Life Gets Busy, Sarah gives 4 powerful and practical ways to take care of yourself when you are busy.
If this isn’t enough for you, then you really need to check out her blog HERE. Sarah is an inspiration and reminds me to take care of myself often.
What can I do for self-care when I’m so busy?
I completely understand where you are coming from. As a homeschooling Mama to 6 very busy children, I have very little time for myself, and by the end of the day, all I want to do is sleep. This is why I’ve decided to start doing something for myself every Saturday. It doesn’t have to be HUGE, but during this time it will be FOR and ABOUT me. If you are looking for some ideas check out this post HERE.
Saturday Self Care Challenge
For my first Self-Care Saturday Challenge, I went to get my hair cut and colored. It has been almost a year and it looks shaggy, frizzy and frumpy. Honestly, I feel ugly, and that is not how ANY woman should ever feel. Everyone deserves to take care of themselves and not feel like it a treat.
This Saturday, I plan on taking an afternoon coffee break. We have a great local coffee shop. I have some things I need to work on my blog. The best way for me to get it all done is to go somewhere else and do it. So, I guess you could say I’m getting 2 things instead of 1.
Now, this coffee break doesn’t have to be at the local coffee shop. I could just as easily be sitting on my back porch. Honestly, I do that a lot. Sometimes it is with my children playing in the backyard, and I have a hot cup of tea. Other times it is just me just being still.
What about YOU?!?
You don’t have to go all out and do something this big or even this expensive. I’m just doing this because it is really needed. I need a haircut. I’m tired of sleeping on my hair and it looking like a rats nest when I wake up in the morning.
So it comes down to this, what ONE thing are you going to do FOR YOURSELF today to get to the Path to the Good Life? How are you going to meet the Self Care Saturday Challenge? Comment below with what you are going to do for yourself?
